I feel it tells about the temptations that we sometimes are faced with in life and how we handle it, we are being tested each day, and it's up to us to pick the path we want to go. Each day we should count the Blessings we are given even when at times we do not deserve them.
This is a very powerful book! I love the depth of expression and rawness of the main character. It accurately expresses the depth of struggle many people face in their lives. I highly recommend this book to anyone.
While Narcissus might've blinked, you will not.
Author John Michael De Marco's writing is visceral yet thought-provoking. I read this in one sitting as the story captivated my attention. His narrative induced the same self-reflection as Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance

This moving and poignant narrative very believably captures the ennui and angst of the middle-aged mid-career suburbanite struggling with the detachment and meaninglessness that can accompany such an existence. This is a relatively brief book that efficiently tells its tale, deftly illuminating the internal emotional and cognitive processes of the main character, Jacob, as he struggles to come to grips with his past and present. It is a spiritual journey traversing one harrowing day in the lives of two couples, and ultimately it is a tale of acceptance, forgiveness, hope, rebirth and redemption.
John Michael De Marco deftly explores the inner turmoil we face each day as we struggle to make sense of what was, what is, and what might have been. His writing captures the tension inherent in our decision to stay the course we have chosen while facing the too human desire to adjust to a new heading. I have never seen an author better capture the free floating peripatetic thought process in our minds, as we travel from one idea to the next in close succession.
I could not put this book down. My need to confirm my suspicions about the main characters, what they did and the course they would ultimately choose took precedence over sleep!
