This book was a relatively quick romantic suspense read that had me reading it straight through from beginning to end. It was suspenseful, and sweet, and the chemistry between the two main characters was palpable. I only wish Zander, Brad's K-9 partner, was in the book a little more. I was able to guess pretty quickly who the stalker was but that in no way detracted from my enjoyment. As it was a pretty short book it did not have the detail and twists and turns that most romantic suspense books have and I wish the bedroom scenes were better written, but overall I found this novella to be a great intro into D.D. Ayres's K-9 Rescue world.Product details

Okay, I have to say I loved this little novella. And honestly it makes me want more of Brad and Georgie. And of course Zander. Who could say no to that pup and his kisses. (grins) It was a good story. One that maybe can be explored in a book in the future? (makes puppy eyes at Mrs. Ayres) If not it was a great read and I can see myself reading it again.. just as I have done with the others in this series. The thing about this story that I liked the best is it shows the depths to which the partners (man and K-9) are connected. I mean when you are with your partner literally 24/7 its to be expected. I loved it!

In this first installment of the K-9 Rescue series we meet a cool chick named Georgie. She’s a photographer. Well photojournalist with an artistic flair is more accurate. Lover of all things and a sweet, down to earth gal from Nashville who resides and works in Washington, D.C.. A promise to help out her friend Yardley Summers of Harmonie Kennels sets out a course of lust, bliss, disaster and hopefully a happily ever after.
While on the photo shoot for a mens calendar (no not that kind) Georgie captures the moments of men in uniforms (drools) with their K-9 partners. Yeah, who wouldn’t want THAT calendar. The only reason Georgie agrees is for Yardley’s sake. I don’t anyone, whether they be man, woman or K-9 tells Yard no. I digress… So as the day goes on Georgie gets to work. She gets to see the men (who are professionals and not used to being ‘glammed’ up for a camera) in a new way. They are at ease with their partners, their K-9s at their side. There is a very special bond between a handler and his/her K-9 partner. There has to be that bond, that trust in order for the two parts to be a whole.
All is going good in Geogie’s day then she meets… tall, dark and oh so yummy. Phillip Dexter and his yellow lab Zander. There is that instant attraction between them and it makes Georgie a little uneasy. But as with anything in life her attraction, his attraction and a few drinks turns into a night of passion. Then the next day he’s gone.
Two months later though he comes back into her life. When her stalker (the secret admirer as he dubbed himself) goes too far, Georgie happens to be in the right place at the right time.. and then.. a hail storm gets her stuck between a rock and the FBI. Seems her secret admirer is into bombs and now he is dragging Georgie along with him. She quickly becomes a suspect. And when the stranger from two months ago walks into her apartment with his K-9 the fun really begins. Seems FBI agent Brad Lawson and his yellow Lab, Zander were actually at Harmonie Kennels months ago to keep a watch over her. Checking her out to see if she was really in the game of bombs with her stalker. Brad had cleared her at that time but now… the stakes had been raised.
As the stalkers intentions become more and more real it is the FBI’s hope that he will slip up and give Georgie something to use against her. But she is not going down like that. Georgie is willing to do anything she can to clear her name and help stop her stalker. The bad part of that.. (well one anyway) is that she is now face to face with Brad. He is her new shadow. He is there to keep her safe.. as only he can. He still has a thing for her and is willing to do what needs to be done to keep her safe. Their personal times together can wait. For now. Or can they? When the lines get blurred things take a turn to the left. In order to get them right again they have to work together to stop the madness her stalker sets in front of them.
Georgie still doesn’t know how this handsome man got past her no one night stand rule. But here he was, wrapped up in her sheets, sound asleep in all his naked glory. As her camera shutter clicked repeatedly, she admired his form and wondered why his man got to her so badly. They would go their separate ways soon, neither one looking for more… but why did that bring on a sad frown. It’s what she wanted, right?
Months later, Georgie returns from a trip to find her apartment ransacked. She is naturally frightened, but aside from everything being torn apart only a few cameras and her laptop are missing. After the police leave, Georgie is surprised to find FBI agents at her door wanting to question her and soon her one night stand, who she knew by a far different name, comes in with his K-9 dog to check for explosives, specifically bombs.
Brad knew who he’d be seeing when he got the call. The FBI had had an interest in Georgie for awhile now, and while he’d played his part in the investigation he hadn’t thought he’d have to face her on the job again. He was wrong. Her anger was obvious as he and his dog were introduced and began their search.
Somehow Georgie was connected to a bomber – unknowingly or not was yet to be determined. But Brad tended to lean toward unknowingly. The attraction was still there and as badly as he wanted to he would not act on it while he was on the case.
Necessary Force was an intense, page turner. Yes, it’s a short introduction to the series but it packs quite a punch. Georgie and Brad were a hot and believable couple. And while the situation they find themselves in might not be common, in today’s world it is all too plausible. I’m looking forward to following the rest of the series… in fact, I’ve already downloaded them from and NetGalley.
If you enjoy a tense, action packed romance then check out Necessary Force. I think you’ll find it’s well worth your time.

This is a novella in the K-9 Rescue series. It's short and sweet. A book you can read in just a few hours. The action and the romance were a good combination.
I love books with pets and Zander was too cute not to love.
